Flying Scotsman is 100 years old and to mark this milestone there are a series of centenary events and rail tours across the country. Flying Scotsman was outshopped from Doncaster works on the 24th February 1923. Initially numbered 1472 it later changed its number to 4472 and then again to 60103 with nationalisation of the railways. Its name "Flying Scotsman" came from the London to Edinburgh train service
